Slipping under the live events radar here in South Africa, international rapper 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson, made a brief visit to Mozambique to perform a one-night-only show at the ATCM Racing Track in Maputo, on 9 November 2013. Local DAS distributors and Edenvale-based rental company CES Live – famous for their technical contributions to the H20 party series – handled the event in its entirety.
After being delayed at the border of Mozambique for two days by customs officials, CES live managed to pull together what almost amounted to a miracle and completed their setup in time for the show to proceed to plan.
Apart from the stage monitors, the audio system employed was all DAS, comprising of a combination of Aero 50, Aero3As, and totalling 16 elements per side for the main PA. A further 24 Aero12As were configured as delay towers (ten a side) and centre-fills. Stage monitors comprised twelve Nexo PS-15 wedges. For subwoofers, 36 DAS LX218C dual 18-inch enclosures were supplied, configured as three stacks of twelve in a left, centre, right configuration. For the delay towers, six RF118 single 18-inch subwoofers were deployed. For both FOH and monitors, Yamaha PM5D consoles were deployed paired to a 48-channel DSP5D stage box. Eight Shure UR4D wireless handheld microphones were supplied along with twelve PSM1000 in-ear monitoring systems for the band. The entire backline for the band was supplied by Kyalami-based rental company Sound Stylists.
