The Audient ASP880, the eight-channel mic pre and ADC from Audient has caught the attention of Mark Richardson from the UK band Skunk Anansie.
ASP880 is an eight-channel microphone preamplifier and ADC. ASP880 provides eight of Audient’s renowned console mic pres, pristine converter technology and a versatile feature set that includes Variable Impedance and Variable High Pass Filters. ASP880 has two sonically accurate discrete JFET DI inputs, so as to plug a guitar or bass straight in.
With the ASP880 one can insert any analog processor before the converters, easily add compression or EQ to your signal before going to the computer. For Richardson, this is happening at the right time, as he’s just set up his home studio with serious kit. After 25 years in the music business, Richardson is no stranger to making records, but it is only recently that he has ventured into the technology side of recording.
This purchase, he says, also comes in handy at the time when the band have started writing a new Skunk record, and he plans to use this new set up to record drums from his home studio.
Busy with Skunk Anansie’s comeback, Richardson also finds time to do sessions. He reunited with Little Angels in 2013 to play with them for the first time in 20 years, and this year he’s been touring with Amy MacDonald.
With his new professional studio set up at home, Audient reckons he’s going to be busy for a while. Richardson agrees. “Audient has opened up a whole new set of possibilities!’
