Australian-based original audio equipment manufacturer, Quest Engineering has been at the forefront of professional audio over the past two decades, consistently innovating with its broad range of practical solutions designed for real-world applications. DWR Distribution recently held open days at their offices in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town to showcase Quest’s exciting range of audio products.

Speaking to Pro-Systems in an interview during the event, export manager at Quest Engineering, Frank Andrewartha explained that the company initially started in the events and production market in the early 1970s. “In the early days, we found that the audio equipment that we imported was very expensive for our market and was not designed to operate in the harsh Australian climate, which – much like South Africa – can go from tropical to desert and everything in between. As a result, the lifespan of a sound system was very short, particularly in touring conditions. We, therefore, started to build a lot of our own audio equipment.

“Over the past twenty years, the company matured to a point where it made more sense to focus on the manufacturing of audio solutions while taking advantage of our extensive experience in the rental and production space to develop products that are directly tailored to the needs of production companies,” Andrewartha states.

Quest Engineering produces products that are particularly well suited to the South African market, as they offer very high performance in a nearly indestructible package at an affordable price. “Quest has found a niche in the market by providing the industry with audio products that are designed with the specific needs of the end user in mind,” Andrewartha states. He goes on to add that “Quest offers a number of unique standalone products that stack up against any of our global competitors on performance, but come in at half the price and will most certainly be more reliable.”

Quest’s headquarters in Melbourne Australia is equipped with a complete design facility, encompassing full test and measure equipment, an anechoic chamber and assembly facilities which allow the company’s engineers to design and build loudspeaker systems as well as commercial solutions with the highest accuracy. All of Quests products are assembled at their state-of-the-art facilities in Australia, using components that are sourced from across the world.

DWR Distribution was appointed as sole distributor of Quest Engineering products in South Africa in the final quarter of 2017. Andrewartha expressed his deep satisfaction with the partnership, stating that: “Our main focus remains producing products that are indestructible, but we also wanted a distributor that would respond if and when something does go wrong. DWR is the perfect company for us, as they have the backup service, the product range and they have the people in place to take care of our products in the local market.”
