Exclusive feature-length versions of Dawn of Planet of the Apes and Life of Pi were shown at 14foot lamberts (fL) in 3D, using Christie 6P Laser Projection with Dolby Atmos.

This is the first time any audience in the world will experience a full-length feature film in full brightness 3D laser projection together with the immersive audio of Dolby Atmos, courtesy of Christie, Dolby Labs, QSC and 20th Century Fox.

The hitherto poor quality of 3D has been a concern in Hollywood for some time. 20th Century Fox has provided specially re-mastered versions for 14fL and Arjun Ramamurthy, VP of Technology Fox, came from Hollywood to support the technology by introducing Monday’s film.

The Christie laser projection system installed for the IBC Big Screen Event means that the film was seen as the producers and director intended – at optimum brightness of 14fL – thanks to Christie’s 6-Primary (6P) laser colour system that provides intense brightness, wider colour gamut capabilities and higher contrast than traditional digital projectors. Importantly, it also delivers naturally simultaneous stereoscopic imagery with no 3D crosstalk.

This is the first time any EMEA audience will see a film in 6P at 14fL.
