Robe fixtures ended 2014 in style on New Year’s Eve, to celebrate 25years since the “fall’ of the Berlin wall, at the iconic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
Lars Murasch, lighting designer from TLT Event AG, used almost 100 Robe moving lights on his rig, 64 x Pointes, 16 x MMX Spots and 18 x MMX WashBeams. The event was enjoyed by about one million visitors and featured an array of all-action performances.
The Pointes, as compared to 2013’s show, which was also designed by Murasch, were dotted all around the stage and their multi-functionality used to the max, so as to create multiple effects and looks, ideal for the camera and lighting scenes on stage. They were selected for their brightness and well-defined beams and compete against many LED screens on stage.
The Pointes replaced a number of 4Kw beams that were used last year and these assisted to focus attention towards the main stage area, making it more visible.
The MMX WashBeams were rigged on the stage wings and allowed variable white light to be added quickly and easily to any performers and presenters on stage for the telecast.
The MMX Spots were hung in the over-stage trusses; their main function was to texture the stage floor with gobo work and colouring. Their dual animation wheels were very helpful in building the multi-layered 3D lighting looks for the stage, which stood out on overhead shots and wide camera sweeps.
Murasch programmed and ran the show using two grandMA2 full size consoles. He was also responsible for producing video content and co-ordinating all the artist-related video content, which ran from a Catalyst media server. Torsten Siebert was responsible for operating the white light on stage using a grandMA2 light.
