In a first for the region, the I’langa Mall in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, is home to a
brand new ice rink, which celebrated its official opening on 20 to 23 September. Rental
company AVS Hire brought a touch of magic to the opening event, with 16 Claypaky
Mythos units lighting the night sky with beams to mark the occasion.
Kyle Nel of AVS states: “My client asked that I create a big and impressive light show
that could be seen for miles around to create excitement for their special occasion.’
For the main lighting show, Nel used 16 Claypaky Mythos fixtures. “As we’ve used
these lights for a number of applications, and therefore, the choice for us was simple.
For this show, both quantity and attention to detail were key, and I knew the Mythos
was capable. To achieve the desired effect, we needed to be creative with movements,
strobe effects and chases, allowing us to exploit the potent “Beam mode’ featured in
the Mythos,’ Nel explains.
Nel adds that despite being heavy and awkward to move, the Mythos is extremely
versatile and smooth in any application, from the theatre where detail is essential, to
effectively filling a venue with gobo effects, and creating punchy beams and prisms for
outdoor shows.
The newly completed renovations at I’langa Mall include cinemas, a bowling alley,
arcade games, bumper cars, and trampoline park – with the ice rink being the most
recent addition.
