For ten consecutive weeks, Blond Productions provided the full technical for the Big
Brother Extremo Live Eviction Show. This consisted of the opening event, weekly
evictions and the recently hosted finale all hosted at Red Pepper Studios in Linden,
Johannesburg with Robe lighting the way. The new set was designed by Toni Van
Oostenrijk from SpaceCadet and built by Dream Sets while Touch Media were
responsible for the striking 3D Mapping.
Endemol Shine Africa produces the Angolan version of the Big Brother Reality
Television Franchise for DSTV. This is the seventh consecutive year that Blond has
worked on the series.
“It’s a privilege to be part of an on-going production which has consisted of various
countries and formats,’ said Christiaan Ballot, owner of Blond. “It’s one of the
shows that has helped us grow through the years.’
Lighting designer Mauritz Neethling from Blond, created a slick looking design and
control was on a MA onPC command wing & extension wing.
Creating eye-catching beams, particularly useful for camera work, 12 x Robe Mini-
Points and 36 x Robin 100 LEDBeam worked their magic. The rig also included 12 x
Robe MMX Spots, 24 x Robe CycFX4, 12 x Robe 700AT Spots, 12 x Robin 300
LEDWash, 12 Clay Paky Sharpies and 78 x Anolis Arklink 4 RGBW LED Units.
This year the set was given a fresh, clean look by incorporating the actual lighting
fixtures into the set. “We used the Robin 100 LEDBeams for this purpose and for the
very first time, the CycFX4,’ explained Ballot. “The CycFX4s were amazing,
especially to create eye candy and to add something different to the show.’
Seven years later and Blond and Dream Sets tackle Big Brother with the same
enthusiasm given to working on a brand new event.
