Berlin University of the Arts in Germany has built a unique light installation at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, in collaboration with a Japanese artist and photographer Yuichiro Tamura.

Tamura’s “Long Exposure of the Lonely Explorer’ has been integrated into David Chipperfield’s artwork “Sticks and Stones’ currently on display at the gallery. Bjorn Hermann, a lighting designer and operator fitted a Clay Paky Supershapy to a supporting structure three metre above the ground. The structure was moved at twenty-minute intervals around the Nationalgalerie, with the help of an eps Club Car and a 2kW generator provided necessary power for the moving light.

The light from Clay Paky Supershapy shone through an installation of 144 tree trunks, arranged to give visitors an impression of being in a forest, this created a dynamic impressive playoff light and shadow.

Artists such as Tamura always create a sensation with his space related experiments and I was the University of the Arts’ idea to bring Chipperfield and Tamura together for the exhibition at the Nationalgalerie.

Frank Vogelgesang, the project manager commented: “We are always very lucky to find fantastic supporters and sponsors, who have allowed us to carry out such important projects.’
