It has been a while since the South African Communication Industries Association (SACIA) hosted their last AV Essentials course, and those who have waited patiently are in for some good news. SACIA are closing off the year by delivering an AV Essentials course in Johannesburg on 28-30 November 2018.

This three-day course provides in-depth explanations of the science and technology behind today’s modern audio and video technology, with a particular emphasis on IP and the integration of audio and video within a networked environment. It builds the student’s understanding of the fundamentals used on a daily basis in the audio-visual industry. It is also great preparation for students wanting to earn the SACIA Certified AV Associate or Practitioner designation.

Topics to be covered in the course include:

  • Audio-visual systems
  • Analogue and digital signals
  • Digital media formats
  • Noise and signal transmission
  • Networking for data and AV
  • Vision and light
  • Capturing and producing an image
  • Display and projection technology
  • Screens
  • Audio system applications
  • Control and electrical systems
  • Signal management systems
  • Radio waves and customer service

The course is based on the AVIXA curriculum (formally InfoComm International), and students are also provided with all the information required to prepare for the AVIXA recognised AV Technologist exam.
