A new line array is set to hit the local market very soon under the brand name A.W.A. With the exception of the drivers, which are all Fane, the system has been 100% designed and assembled in South Africa by Lior Manelis and his engineer, Reggie Bidgood at Pristine Moods Productions and consists of the LA208 mid/high element and the 218BP subwoofer.

The LA208 is a dual eight-inch (Fane 8-225) line array element with a single 1′ HF compression driver (Fane CD-150) that handles 500W RMS and outputs 133.7dBSPL per cab. The 218BP subwoofer is a dual-18′ design loaded with Fane Prime XS drivers.

“The system was designed to deliver professional sound, at a non-professional price’, says Manelis. “Many companies wish to own a line array but to get a return on investment with the gear currently available does not make it viable. With the A.W.A range we aim to change that perception. The line array is made locally from beginning to end, apart from the drivers and we have seen this system develop from a sheet of ply wood, into a fully audible cab. After much market research, We have decided that Lab.Gruppen amplification & EAW Processing would be the best match for our system, supplied by SURGESOUND’

The system will be on demo on 15 May at Unit 26, Boundary Corner, 652 Boundary Rd, Johannesburg at 15:00 and all are invited to attend. The system will consist of four LA208 elements per side together with the 218BP subwoofers and will be powered by Lab.Gruppen FP+10000Q amplifiers. The system will be processed by an EAW UX3600 and configured via Smaart.
